Agony and Ecstasy — 'Speak Life' (EP)

Agony and Ecstasy is the project name for a solo recording endeavour undertaken by musician Steven Colborne between 2023 and 2025. This release, Speak Life EP, features five riff-driven electro-rock songs that are anthemic and futuristic in feel.

The name Agony and Ecstasy was chosen by Steven for two reasons. Firstly, the two terms reflect the two poles of human experience. Secondly, they reflect the bipolar tendencies that Steven himself has experienced throughout his adult life.

The name Speak Life was given to the EP because the lead single on the EP has that name and is the only song on the record that features vocals from Colborne. The vocals convey many of the things that are beautiful about human life and are uplifting in nature. The song also features a pulsating heavy bassline and is a highly original and expressive musical offering. All of the other songs on the EP are instrumental anthems, each one unique and created with exceptional care.

Speak Life EP was never officially released through a record label, making it collectible and rare. Nevertheless, it contains some of Colborne’s finest musical work. The record will appeal to anyone who loves music that is lively, energetic, riff-infused and progressive.
